Celebrating Dan Ritchie, Joy Burns and 154 Years of DU Pride
Many Faces, Countless Stories. We are all Founders.
One of DU’s most treasured traditions, the Founders Celebration, recognizes the individuals throughout the decades — from our founding in 1864 to the present day — whose dedication has made an indelible impact on the University of Denver. We celebrate this event each year to honor their visionary commitment to our University and to our world, to create lasting connections and to experience the transformational power of philanthropy, community and intellect. Each one of us can be a founder at the University of Denver. This celebration is for all of us connected to DU and what we will do to make DU what it is today and what it will be tomorrow.
As part of our Founders Celebration, we will honor Chancellor Emeritus Dan Ritchie and Board Chair Emerita Joy Burns with the Founders Medal at the Founders Gala Thursday evening.
Established by Chancellor Rebecca Chopp for the 2016 Founders Celebration, the Founders Medal is the University’s highest honor, bestowed upon individuals or families whose transformative leadership and engaged philanthropy represent the pinnacle of DU’s mission and values.
Both Dan and Joy's impact and legacy extend far beyond the University and into the Denver community. Their passion for this institution and city are unparalleled.
