Remembering Professor Robert Hannum
Jan. 11, 2018
To: all faculty and staff at the University of Denver
From: Brent Chrite, dean of the Daniels College of Business
I am writing to inform you of the death of Robert Hannum last week. Hannum, professor of finance, had been a member of the Daniels community since 1979. He served as chair of the Department of Statistics and Operations Technology from 1987 to 1991 before that department became Business Information and Analytics. His research interests focused on statistics, in particular the mathematics of gambling. He received his PhD and MS from Florida State University.
As a community, our deepest sympathy goes out to Bob’s family and friends. The Daniels community is planning to have a memorial service. We will send out details when arrangements have been made. In the meantime, please remember it is important that we come together to support one another. I urge anyone who feels the need to do so to use the resources available:
- The Health & Counseling Center (HCC) provides many medical and mental health services, including crisis and after-hours support. All University of Denver students have access to crisis services at the HCC, regardless of insurance coverage (phone: 303-871-2205; Ritchie Center, 2240 E. Buchtel Blvd., Suite 3N)
- Employee Assistance Program: The HCC provides counseling and support for all University of Denver employees, including crisis and after-hours support. Please call 303-871-2205 to access services, or make an appointment online through My Health, which can be accessed through our website.
- Chaplain Gary Brower works with all members of the DU community on issues ranging from interfaith dialogue to spiritual care and counseling. (phone: 303-871-4488; Driscoll Student Center, South, 2050 E. Evans Ave.
- Student Outreach & Support is a University resource that connects students to appropriate campus resources and counsels them about how to navigate challenging situations.
