University Chaplain Leaving After More than a Decade of Service
I write to share that University Chaplain Gary Brower has announced that he will be leaving DU at the end of June in order to move to the next phase of his career.
For over a decade, Dr. Brower has supported members of the University community across all faiths. When he was hired in the summer of 2007, he was given the responsibility to re-create the position of University Chaplain. In this role, he has advocated for the integration of religious, spiritual and ethical voices and values at DU.
Many of us are saddened to see him go, though we wish him well as he prepares to take his many talents and pastoral nature to serve and support others.
In reflecting on his time at DU, Gary shared the following:
I’ve engaged many partners on-, and off- campus and have had the opportunity to work with many amazing colleagues. After having spent more than 25 years in ministry in higher education, I hope to translate all that I’ve learned in that arena into parochial ministry within the Episcopal Church. I have several irons in the fire, but none are finalized at this point.
Dr. Brower has announced his decision in advance so that we have the opportunity to move forward transparently and facilitate a smooth transition. The Office of Campus Life and Inclusive Excellence will share details about a search for the next chaplain in the weeks ahead. They will also announce a date and time for a community celebration for Gary.
